Optiemus Infracom Shares Rise 44% After BIS Certification Mandate for Smartphone Screen Protectors

Optiemus Infracom shares, the leading Indian manufacturer of tempered glass and smartphone screen protectors, surged for a third consecutive session on Wednesday, September 23, after the government mandated compulsory Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for screen protectors. In three trading days the stock climbed as much as 44%, reaching a fresh 52‑week high of ₹850.05 on the BSE and ₹850.65 on the NSE. The rally reflects growing investor confidence in the company’s position within the domestic market.

Intraday trading data showed the stock rising as much as 20% during the session, with volumes reflecting heightened buying interest. The sharp intraday gains were driven by the announcement that the BIS certification requirement would take effect from 1st April 2027, prompting speculation that the move would curb low‑quality imports and benefit domestic producers such as Optiemus Infracom.

The government’s notification, dated September 21, clarified that the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021, would apply to screen protectors listed in column 2 of the order’s schedule, with conformity to Indian standard IS 19348:2025 required. This marks the 66th item to be notified under the rule, joining categories such as smartphones, laptops, chargers, LED televisions, microwave ovens, printers and set‑top boxes.

The notification states that the provisions will apply to goods or articles specified in column 2 (Screen Protectors for smartphones) added to the schedule by virtue of this notification, with effect from 1st April 2027. The move is expected to curb sales of low‑quality smartphone screen protectors and help domestic manufacturers, analysts noted, thereby strengthening the quality‑led, Made‑in‑India ecosystem.

Optiemus Infracom, led by executive chairman Ashok Gupta, plans to expand its screen‑protector manufacturing capacity by an additional 2 crore units to meet emerging demand. The company has set up a production unit in Noida to manufacture tempered glass screen protectors using technology from US firm Corning, with shipments expected to start in January 2027. Optiemus forecasts ₹1,800–2,000 crore revenue in the current financial year from its tempered glass business, while the domestic market for tempered glass screen protectors is estimated at 400 million pieces with a retail value of ₹20,000 crore in 2025.

In a separate development, CMF, a global consumer technology brand, announced an expanded partnership with Optiemus Group on Tuesday, allowing Optiemus to join Nothing’s upcoming Series A investment round for the CMF brand. The partnership builds on a strategic manufacturing joint venture announced in September 2025, establishing India as a production hub for Nothing and CMF products. As of 9:58 am, Optiemus Infracom shares traded 12.7% higher at ₹798, outperforming the NIFTY Microcap 250 index which was up 0.8%.
