Swiggy Shares Drop 6% as ₹982 Crore Block Deal Sparks Q3 Growth Question
Swiggy shares fell about 6% on Friday, October 30, after investors reacted to a ₹982 crore block deal that entered the market. The stock dropped 5.8% to an intraday low of ₹174.50, compared with ₹185.25 at the previous close. Trading volume exceeded 26.8 million equity shares across NSE and BSE, amplifying the loss as the block deal update appeared in the morning window. The decline reflects heightened scrutiny over the sizeable transaction and its implications for Swiggy’s share price trajectory.
The block deal involved 5,43,47,662 shares, or more than 5.43 crore equity shares, exchanged between an undisclosed buyer and seller before the opening bell, according to NSE block‑deal data. The exchanges will disclose the buyer and seller names and the weighted average trading price after market close on October 30. A block deal, defined as a transaction of at least ₹10 crore in a single session, is closely monitored by traders to gauge institutional flows and potential market movements.
Swiggy’s financials showed an improvement in year‑on‑year net losses, yet sequential losses widened to ₹922 crore in the September quarter of FY27. Despite the loss expansion, analysts remain cautiously optimistic about the company’s quick commerce arm, Instamart, which is expected to deliver better sequential growth in the third quarter of FY27. Management’s focus on prioritising growth over margins is seen as a key driver for this potential upside.
JPMorgan analysts predict that Swiggy’s quick commerce business will achieve better sequential growth in Q3 FY27, with management targeting a contribution margin guidance of –1% to 0% over the next few quarters. The firm also notes that Swiggy’s transition to an Indian Owned and Controlled Company (IOCC) could unlock full margin benefits from its business model post‑transition, aligning with India’s stricter foreign investment regulations in e‑commerce and quick commerce sectors.
The analysts highlighted Swiggy’s new standalone budget food delivery platform, Toing, as a strategic initiative to expand the total addressable market. They noted that two out of three Toing orders come from customers who are either new to Swiggy or were long‑term dormant, indicating Toing’s role in broadening the customer base and enhancing market penetration for the food delivery segment.
Over the past year, Swiggy’s share price has fallen more than 57% and declined over 54% year‑to‑date in 2026. In the last month, the stock has lost 29%, though it has traded 0.6% higher in the last five market sessions. As of Friday, October 30, 2026, the company’s market capitalisation hovered around ₹48,857 crore, reflecting the cumulative impact of recent trading activity and investor sentiment.
