GIFT NIFTY Futures Signal Weak Opening for Indian Markets Amid Global Selloff

Indian equity benchmarks are set to open lower on Friday, October 30, as indicated by NIFTY futures traded at GIFT City in Gandhinagar. GIFT NIFTY futures fell 40 points to 23,007 amid weak cues from global markets and a surge in crude prices in global markets today.

Benchmarks snapped their two-day losing streak on Thursday as investor sentiment turned positive tracking a drop in crude prices in global markets amid monthly expiry of SENSEX futures and option contracts, which helped lift the market and encouraged traders to take positions ahead of the week.

SENSEX rose as much as 920 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 22,962 powered by gains in index heavyweights like Kotak Mahindra Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, Adani Ports and Reliance Industries, contributing to the overall bullish sentiment.

SENSEX ended 905 points higher at 74,151 and NIFTY50 index advanced 238 points to close at 22,937. Asian markets were trading sharply lower tracking an overnight selloff in US markets after disappointing September quarter earnings posted by Alphabet dented investors' sentiment. Google‑parent Alphabet Inc. failed to meet market expectations, with net income declining 25% and the company recording a negative free cash flow of $9 billion in the quarter under review.

Back home, foreign institutional investors sold shares worth ₹943.60 crore on Thursday while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth ₹1,924 crore. More than 200 companies will declare their results for the quarter ended September 2026 on Friday, October 30. They include multinational conglomerate Reliance Industries, digital services and telecommunications company Jio Platforms, drug maker Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, aerospace and defence electronics firm Bharat Electronics, petroleum refiner Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, PepsiCo bottler Varun Beverages, and public sector lender Bank of Baroda. Asian indices fell: Nikkei dropped 2.9%, KOSPI fell 5.4%, Taiwan Weighted plunged 3.11%, and Shanghai Composite fell 0.93%.
