Jupiter Wagons Shares Surge 9% After Securing ₹1,140 Crore Wagon Order, Targets ₹2,000 Crore Q4 FY27 Inflows
Jupiter Wagons shares jumped over 9% to an intraday high of ₹198 on Thursday, October 29, after the company announced it had won a major order from the Ministry of Railways. The rolling‑stock and mobility solutions firm will manufacture and supply 2,583 wagons, comprising BOXNHL and BOXNS types, worth ₹1,140 crore including taxes. The contract is part of the Ministry’s strategy to increase freight capacity under the National Rail Plan, with large‑scale wagon procurement complementing Dedicated Freight Corridors and PM Gati Shakti initiatives.
In a regulatory filing, Jupiter Wagons highlighted that the new contract supports the Government of India’s objective of raising the railways’ share of freight movement. Managing Director Vivek Lohia said the order reinforces the company’s position as a key player in railway rolling‑stock manufacturing and reflects its continued contribution to meeting Indian Railways’ requirements. He added that the firm has integrated backward across the wagon value chain, from castings and bogies to couplers and brake systems, and is now extending this integration to wheelsets through its facility in Odisha, giving greater control over cost, quality and delivery timelines.
Jupiter also reiterated that its private‑sector order book remains strong, supported by steady demand from private freight operators, wagon leasing companies and core‑sector customers. The company said this balance between government and private demand continues to give it a diversified and resilient order pipeline. Building on the present award, Jupiter expects incremental order inflows of approximately ₹2,000 crore in Q4 FY27, giving it healthy visibility as India moves a greater share of freight by rail on the path to Viksit Bharat 2047.
The Ministry of Railways has recently released a tender for the procurement of 5,800 BOBRN wagons, further strengthening the sector’s near‑term demand outlook. Jupiter Wagons noted that this tender, along with the current order, underscores the Ministry’s confidence in the company’s ability to deliver. The firm remains ready to execute with the discipline required as India increases its freight share by rail.
