Vedanta Shares Surge Over 3% Ahead of Q2 FY27 Earnings

Vedanta Limited and its aluminium arm Vedanta Aluminium saw their shares rise more than 3 % on Wednesday, 28 October, as investors turned their attention to the companies’ forthcoming July‑to‑September quarter earnings for the financial year 2026‑27. Vedanta shares climbed 3.1 % to an intraday high of ₹232.60, up from ₹225.60 at the previous close. Vedanta Aluminium shares jumped 3.5 % to a day’s high of ₹366.75, compared with ₹354.10 at the prior close. Trading volumes exceeded 5.6 million equity shares on the NSE and BSE combined, signalling heightened investor interest amid concerns over rising costs that could squeeze margins.

Both Vedanta Ltd and Vedanta Aluminium are slated to announce their July‑to‑September quarter results on the same day, with expectations that the earnings will be released during afternoon market hours or after the close. Investors are keen to assess the companies’ cost of production, which is likely to rise sharply because of higher crude oil prices and supply‑chain disruptions linked to the West Asia crisis. Mining and production firms are capital intensive and rely heavily on energy sources such as oil to run heavy machinery, so elevated oil costs are expected to erode margins. Other factors, including higher global metal prices, consumer demand, and a weaker Indian rupee, are anticipated to support overall revenues.

Vedanta Group’s power subsidiary, Vedanta Power, will convene its board of directors on Thursday, 29 October, to review and approve the standalone and consolidated unaudited financial results for the quarter and half‑year ended 30 September 2026. The company has announced that power sales rose 26 % year‑on‑year to 5,593 million units in Q2 FY27, reflecting a robust operational performance. Shares of Vedanta Power were trading 0.21 % lower at approximately ₹28.90 on Wednesday’s market, compared with ₹28.96 at the previous close, according to NSE data. The board meeting will also discuss strategic initiatives and future outlook for the power division.

While Vedanta’s shares rallied, other oil‑sensitive names such as BPCL, Indian Oil and HPCL slipped as crude oil prices jumped 2 % to $116 per barrel, dragging the Nifty Oil & Gas index down 2.2 %. The decline was attributed to the sharp rise in crude prices, which raised input costs for these firms. The broader market sentiment reflected concerns over commodity price volatility and its impact on energy‑intensive sectors. Investors are monitoring the interplay between global oil movements and domestic currency fluctuations, which could influence the profitability of resource‑heavy companies.

Vedanta Limited, one of India’s major diversified conglomerates, operates across natural resources, energy, technology and mining metals such as zinc, silver, copper, nickel and ferrous alloys. The company’s focus on cost of production is expected to be a key driver in the upcoming earnings, as higher crude oil prices and supply‑chain disruptions are likely to increase operating expenses. At the same time, elevated global metal prices, sustained consumer demand and a weaker rupee are projected to support revenue growth, potentially offsetting margin pressure. Market participants will closely scrutinise the earnings release for guidance on future profitability and capital allocation.
