L&T Secures Dhaka Metro Order Worth Up to ₹10,000 Crore, Shares Rise Ahead of Q2 Earnings

Larsen & Toubro’s transportation infrastructure vertical has secured major design‑and‑build orders for two key system packages of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project, Line 1, the first underground metro in Bangladesh. The contracts, valued between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore, cover Contract Package CP09—track works and electrical systems—and Contract Package CP10—signalling, telecommunications and platform screen doors (PSD). The project, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will span approximately 31 km, including the Airport Route from Kamalapur to Airport and the Purbachal Route from Natun Bazar to Purbachal Terminal, with 19 stations and a depot at Pitalganj.

Under CP09, L&T, together with its Japanese partner Sumitomo Corporation, will undertake design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the complete track works, power supply and distribution system, traction substations, overhead catenary system and associated electrical facilities across the corridor. CP10 will see the company execute signalling, telecommunication and platform screen door systems for the entire network. These contracts underscore L&T’s capability to deliver large‑scale, integrated urban transit projects globally, as highlighted by Senior Executive Vice President Ramkumar S.

Ramkumar S, Senior Executive Vice President & Head—Transportation Infrastructure, L&T, remarked that repeat orders from Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) testify to L&T’s expertise in delivering complex rail infrastructure. He added that the firm’s strong track record of delivering E&M systems for Dhaka Metro Line 6 and the Jakarta Metro, which is under execution, positions it well to integrate multiple systems in close coordination with OEMs and stakeholders. The transportation infrastructure vertical remains a leading EPC player in India and international markets.

Analysts anticipate that L&T could report double‑digit revenue growth in Q2 FY27, driven by robust order inflows and steady execution. Consolidated revenue is expected to rise about 10% year‑on‑year to between ₹74,810 crore and ₹75,110 crore, up from ₹67,942 crore in the previous quarter and ₹67,984 crore in the September quarter of FY26. Net profit, however, may remain flat, with geopolitical headwinds affecting project execution, especially in West Asia.

Shares of L&T rose 1% to touch an intraday high of ₹3,713.50 on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. At 11:25 AM, the stock traded at ₹3,693.10 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.36%. From the beginning of the year, L&T shares have slipped 11%; over a month’s time, the stock has lost 2%, while for a six‑month period, it has fallen 9%. The 52‑week high was ₹4,440 on 24 February 2026 and the 52‑week low was ₹3,288.10 on 23 March 2025.

As of 27 October 2026, L&T’s total market capitalisation stands at ₹5.08 lakh crore. The company’s latest order from Dhaka Metro is expected to bolster its order book and support revenue growth, while profitability may face pressure due to regional geopolitical challenges. Investors are closely watching the company’s Q2 FY27 earnings for confirmation of these expectations.
