BPCL, HPCL, IOC Gain While Paints, Tyres Stocks Fall as Crude Prices Drop 2%

BPCL, HPCL and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) gained on Monday, while shares of paint manufacturers and tyre producers slipped as crude oil prices fell by 2%. The three oil marketing companies rose up to 2.4%, buoyed by a modest rebound after a four‑month rally. In contrast, Asian Paints, Berger Paints and Indigo Paints lost as much as 2%, and tyre names such as JK Tyres, Apollo Tyres, MRF and Balkrishna Industries fell up to 3%.

Crude oil prices slipped 2% on Monday after a sharp pullback from four‑month highs, with the benchmark moving from $70 per barrel in July to over $115 per barrel in October. Volatility peaked as supply from the Middle East returned to pre‑conflict levels in late September, only to be hit by new headwinds when Houthi rebels attacked Saudi Arabia, raising fears of further supply disruption.

Houthi rebels have intensified their offensive against Saudi Arabia by striking critical energy infrastructure, including the Jeddah airport and downing a fighter jet, and targeting the Shaybah oil field, where two personnel were killed. These attacks have heightened uncertainty in the region, with supply disruption fears refusing to abate despite crude oil supply returning to pre‑conflict levels.

Iran continues to target illegal oil shipping vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, keeping the major trade route under constant threat of disruption. Meanwhile, the SENSEX plunged over 500 points and the NIFTY50 fell below 22,400 on Monday, reflecting broader market pessimism that has weighed on oil‑sensitive stocks. Investors remain wary of geopolitical tensions and supply uncertainties, which continue to influence commodity prices and corporate earnings.

Oil marketing companies such as Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum and Indian Oil opened in green, posting gains of up to 2.4% as crude prices steadied. In contrast, paint manufacturers Asian Paints, Berger Paints and Indigo Paints fell as much as 2%, while tyre makers JK Tyres, Apollo Tyres, MRF and Balkrishna Industries slipped up to 3%. The broader trend shows oil‑sensitive stocks have suffered steep declines in recent months after crude prices rebounded from lows.
