Bharat Coking Coal Q2 FY27 Net Profit Reverses Loss Amid Production and Offtake Increase

Bharat Coking Coal, a Coal India subsidiary, reported a net profit of ₹124 crore for the July‑September quarter of FY27, compared with a net loss of nearly ₹53 crore in the same quarter of FY26. The profit reversal followed a 39% year‑on‑year rise in core operations revenue to ₹4,413 crore, up from ₹3,173 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) were ₹200 crore, giving an EBITDA margin of 4.5% for the September quarter.

Overall production volumes increased 7.6% year‑on‑year to 7.22 million tonnes, up from 6.71 million tonnes a year earlier. Coal offtake volumes rose 9.6% YoY to 8.89 million tonnes in the September quarter, compared with 8.11 million tonnes in the same quarter of FY26. In the first half of FY27, production volumes declined 12.5% and offtake volumes declined 2.5%, indicating a temporary slowdown earlier in the fiscal year.

On the stock market, Bharat Coking Coal shares have fallen 26% year‑to‑date since listing on January 19, 2026. In the last month, the stock declined 8.4%, and it has dropped 6% over the last five trading sessions. The 52‑week high on listing day was ₹45.09, while the 52‑week low reached ₹28.92 on October 23, 2026. As of the market close on Friday, October 23, 2026, the company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹13,859 crore.

The net profit of ₹124 crore in Q2 FY27 contrasts with a net loss of ₹68 crore in Q1 FY27 and a net loss of nearly ₹53 crore in Q2 FY26. Revenue growth of 39% and EBITDA of ₹200 crore underpin the turnaround, while the 4.5% EBITDA margin indicates improved operating efficiency. The rise in coal offtake volumes by 9.6% YoY reflects stronger demand from customers, contributing to the higher revenue and profit figures reported for the July‑September period.

Investors will focus on the October 26 earnings release, expecting the company’s financial performance to influence trading activity. The July‑September quarter shows a shift from loss to profit, driven by higher production, increased offtake volumes and a significant revenue jump. With market capitalisation at ₹13,859 crore and a 52‑week low of ₹28.92, the stock remains volatile, having dropped 26% YTD. The company’s financial statements suggest a positive trajectory, but the recent decline in first‑half production and offtake volumes may temper market sentiment.
