SBI to Suspend Digital Banking for 45 Minutes on Oct 24 Amid Maintenance
State Bank of India (SBI) announced on Friday that its digital banking services, including UPI, IMPS, YONO, internet banking, NEFT and RTGS, will be temporarily unavailable for 45 minutes in the early hours of October 24. The outage is scheduled from 1:45 am to 2:30 am IST on Saturday, 24.10.2026, as part of routine maintenance activity. Customers are advised to use UPI Lite and ATM services during this window.
SBI added that it regretted the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience. The bank’s post on X reiterated the temporary unavailability and urged users to rely on alternative channels such as UPI Lite and ATM during the maintenance period. No other services were mentioned as affected beyond the listed digital platforms.
Days earlier, SBI disclosed a suspected data exposure involving customer records found on the dark web. In a regulatory filing dated 21 October, the bank reported receiving communications on 16 October from its Threat Intelligence Service Provider, the Defence Cyber Agency and CERT‑In regarding an alert about the suspected exposure. Preliminary analysis of approximately 3.75 lakh records on the dark web identified 3,897 customer records containing personally identifiable information (PII) such as mobile numbers, dates of birth, names, email addresses, residential addresses, branch and CIF identifiers, metadata linked to loan records.
SBI said a detailed investigation was required to establish the authenticity and completeness of the exposed data, determine the potential source and extent of the exposure, and assess the associated risks to customers and the bank. The bank assured customers that their money remained safe and that the suspected incident had affected a "very very small number of customers." It also stated that the incident had not materially affected its IT infrastructure, core business operations, financial performance or business continuity.
In its X post, SBI reiterated the temporary unavailability and urged users to rely on alternative channels such as UPI Lite and ATM during the maintenance period. The bank also thanked customers for their patience and expressed regret for the inconvenience. No other services were reported as affected beyond the listed digital platforms, and the bank confirmed that customer balances remain completely safe.
