Urban Company Posts Wider Loss Amid Revenue Surge, Expands User Base and NTV
Urban Company, the home‑cleaning platform, announced its second‑quarter results for the 2026‑27 fiscal year on 16 October. The company reported a consolidated net loss of ₹182.48 crore, a year‑on‑year increase from ₹59.33 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year. Despite the widening loss, consolidated revenue from operations rose 41.4 % YoY to ₹537.29 crore, up from ₹380.03 crore in Q2 FY26. The earnings release highlighted the firm’s continued focus on scaling its service network while investing heavily in growth initiatives.
Orders delivered during the quarter reached 15.1 million, an increase of 103 % YoY, while annual transacting users climbed to nearly 10 million, a 35 % YoY jump. Net transaction value (NTV) grew 39 % YoY to ₹1,432 crore in the July‑September quarter of FY27. The company noted that NTV had surged approximately 40 % for three consecutive quarters, outpacing its pre‑listing trend, driven by accelerating new user acquisition, which rose 46 % YoY over the same period.
The firm reported that penetration in the largest categories across its top eight cities remained below 10 %, whereas tier‑2 cities grew about 7 % YoY and emerged as a second growth engine. International business expanded 66 % YoY, mirroring India’s penetration journey. The Native segment was described as building toward a strong festive Q3, with the company positioning itself to capture seasonal demand.
Urban Company’s core business continued its growth momentum with margin expansion. The company said it had invested aggressively in InstaHelp, where unit economics improved even as the business scaled rapidly. This investment was highlighted as a key driver of the improved profitability metrics within the core service offering, despite the overall loss widening.
The board approved a proposal to raise up to ₹2,500 crore through equity shares and other securities convertible into equity, including warrants, fully convertible debentures, and convertible preference shares, to be issued in one or more tranches. It also granted in‑principle approval to explore residential air conditioners as a new line of business under its Native segment, citing the large market and existing customer insights. Shares closed 2.47 % higher at ₹158.12 on the NSE on 16 October, while the company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹24,384.96 crore.
