Wipro Shares Surge 6.5% as Q2 Net Profits Fall, Analysts Warn of Sluggish Q3 Outlook

Wipro shares rose 6.5% to ₹185.45 on Friday, October 16, after the company reported a nearly 5% sequential decline in net profits for the July‑to‑September quarter of FY27. The rally was driven by investors noting that revenue from core operations grew 1.1% in the same period, and that earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 11.21% year‑on‑year to ₹4,863 crore. Trading volumes exceeded 5.94 crore equity shares across NSE and BSE, creating high‑volume momentum after a subdued start to the session.

At 1 pm IST, Wipro shares were trading 5.8% higher at approximately ₹184.22. While consolidated net profits fell 1.9% year‑on‑year to ₹3,200 crore, revenues grew over 9% compared to the second quarter of the previous financial year. Voluntary attrition stood at 13.8% on a trailing 12‑month basis as of the quarter ended September 2026. The company’s market capitalisation was more than ₹1.82 lakh crore as of the trading session on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Citibank analysts said Wipro delivered slightly better‑than‑expected earnings in the July‑to‑September quarter, exceeding muted expectations. However, they warned that forward‑looking indicators continue to suggest sluggish trends, predicting a quarter‑on‑quarter decline at the midpoint of Q3 FY27 while management focuses on achieving consistent organic growth. Nomura analysts noted that revenue guidance for Q3 FY27 is in line with estimates, expecting a return to a target margin band of 17‑17.5% over time.

Wipro’s management projected IT services business segment revenues for Q3 FY27 to range between $2,571 million and $2,625 million, translating to sequential guidance of (‑)1.5% to (+)0.5% in constant currency terms. Jefferies analysts echoed concerns, citing a 45% year‑on‑year decline in deal wins that points to a weaker growth outlook for the upcoming period. Analysts from Citibank and Nomura both highlighted the need for the company to focus on consistent organic growth amid a challenging market environment.

Over the last five years, Wipro shares have lost 48% of their value, declining 10% in the last three years and more than 27% in the last one‑year period. On a year‑to‑date basis in 2026, the stock has lost 31.4% of its value. In the near term, shares have risen 9.8% in the last one‑month period and 12.75% in the past five market sessions. The 52‑week high was ₹273.10 on December 22, 2025, while the 52‑week low was ₹156.79 on September 29, 2026.

The recent share price rally contrasts with longer‑term caution, as analysts anticipate a weaker growth trajectory for the next quarter despite the short‑term optimism. Investors remain focused on the company’s revenue growth both year‑on‑year and sequentially, while experts predict sluggish trends ahead in the third quarter of the current fiscal year. The market capitalisation and trading volume figures underscore the volatility and the mixed sentiment surrounding Wipro’s performance in FY27.
