Vedanta Group Shares Rise Amid Market Recovery, Mixed Five‑Day Performance

The broader market recovery on Friday, 16 October, was underpinned by gains in IT and metal stocks, softer crude oil prices and a stronger rupee, all of which helped lift investor sentiment. Vedanta Group shares rose in the morning session, mirroring the rebound in the S&P BSE SENSEX and NSE NIFTY50, both of which extended their gains after a sharp rise the previous day. The rally, however, followed a mixed performance over the preceding five trading sessions, with most of the group’s stocks still trading lower during that period.

At 11:24 a.m. on Friday, Vedanta Ltd shares were trading 1.42% higher at ₹249.40 on the NSE, while Hindustan Zinc was up 2.17% to ₹542.50. Among the demerged entities, Vedanta Power gained 0.61% to ₹32.73, Vedanta Iron and Steel rose 1.23% to ₹29.68, Vedanta Oil and Gas advanced 0.35% to ₹31.67, and Vedanta Aluminium Metal was the biggest gainer, rising 4% to ₹374.20. These movements were part of the morning deals that saw the group’s shares climb in line with the broader equity market.

Between 12 and 16 October, Vedanta shares declined about 6.3%, while Hindustan Zinc fell 2%. Vedanta Aluminium Metal was down 2.18% and Vedanta Iron and Steel slipped 0.34%. In contrast, Vedanta Oil and Gas gained 2.82% over the five‑session period, and Vedanta Power advanced 2.50%. These figures illustrate the uneven performance across the group’s businesses during the recent trading window. Overall, the group’s stock mix showed a net decline, reflecting broader sectoral volatility.

Metal stocks were in the green on Friday’s session. The NIFTY METAL index rose 1.35% to 12,179.40 levels. Over the past five sessions, the index has surged more than 1%, signalling a broader rebound in the metals segment that has buoyed several constituent stocks, including those of the Vedanta demerged entities. The metals rally has been supported by falling crude oil prices and a strengthening rupee, which together have reduced input costs for metal producers.

Vedanta completed its demerger into four separately listed companies on 15 June 2026, with the new entities beginning trading on the stock exchanges that day. The businesses are Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd, Vedanta Power Ltd, Vedanta Oil and Gas Ltd, and Vedanta Iron and Steel Ltd. Under the scheme, eligible shareholders received one share in each of the four resulting companies for every one share of Vedanta Ltd held on the record date. Vedanta Ltd remains listed separately, retaining its other businesses, including its stake in Hindustan Zinc, thereby expanding the group’s presence on the exchanges and allowing investors to assess each business individually.
