Welspun’s Saudi Pipe Deal and Tata Group Boardroom Clash Set Market Focus
Welspun Corp announced that its associate East Pipes Integrated Company for Industry (EPIC), a listed entity in Saudi Arabia, has secured a contract with Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) for the manufacturing and supply of steel pipes. The contract, valued at more than SAR 771 million—approximately ₹2,000 crore including value‑added tax—will span six months. The financial impact of the deal is expected to be reflected from the fourth quarter of FY27 through the first quarter of FY28, signalling a significant revenue boost for Welspun’s international operations.
The domestic equity market is anticipated to open lower on Monday, September 21, with GIFT NIFTY futures indicating a 41‑point decline for the NIFTY50 index. Amid this backdrop, Tata Group stocks are likely to remain in focus after a sharp slide in Friday’s trade, triggered by fresh developments surrounding Natarajan Chandrasekaran’s reappointment as chairman of Tata Sons. The Tata Trusts have challenged the validity of the September 17 decision, arguing that the company’s Articles of Association require majority support from Trust‑nominated directors and that a chairman’s casting vote cannot override that condition.
Boardroom disagreements escalated last week when Tata Sons’ directors approved a fresh term for executive chairman N Chandrasekaran in a vote that the group’s biggest shareholder deemed illegal. The dispute highlights governance tensions within India’s largest conglomerate, potentially affecting investor sentiment toward Tata Group stocks during the week’s trading session. Analysts will monitor the outcome of the Trusts’ challenge and any subsequent resolutions that may influence the group’s leadership structure.
Welspun Enterprises is also in the spotlight after its subsidiary Welspun Michigan Engineers secured two sewer rehabilitation projects from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation worth ₹351.24 crore, including GST. Funded by the World Bank, the projects involve rehabilitation of existing sewer lines across eastern and western Ahmedabad over 24 months. The order wins increased the subsidiary’s order book to around ₹2,432.66 crore as of September 2026, up from about ₹2,135 crore in June.

NTPC terminated a contract with GR Infraprojects for a 400‑MWh Battery Energy Storage System at Mouda Super Thermal Power Station due to the contractor’s failure to meet obligations. RVNL received a ₹404.88 crore Letter of Acceptance from East Coast Railway for a third railway line project.
