NSE IX and London Stock Exchange Sign MoU to Expand Cross‑Border Listings

On October 13, NSE IFSC Limited (NSE IX), the international stock exchange operator based in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, announced a strategic memorandum of understanding with the London Stock Exchange (LSEG). The agreement aims to create market opportunities for investors and deepen capital markets in both countries. The MoU will enable cross‑listings of equity, fixed‑income and ETF products, allowing Indian investors to access a broader range of global securities and providing LSEG issuers with exposure to the Indian market.

Under the MoU, NSE IX will introduce existing financial products and develop new ones that will eventually be listed on its platform, using FTSE Russell indices as the underlying asset base. The collaboration also envisages the creation of derivatives for trading on NSE IX and the potential availability of certain LSEG products to Indian investors, although specific details have not yet been disclosed. The partnership will explore joint development of new equity indices, cross‑border trading connectivity, and market data distribution, as stated in the official filing.

The cross‑listing initiative is expected to connect the two exchanges, leading to higher liquidity and an expanded investor base. By facilitating seamless trading between the UK and Indian markets, the MoU aims to attract a larger pool of participants and enhance market depth. This connectivity is positioned as a strategic step to strengthen the financial linkages fostered under the India‑UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which underpins the collaboration between London and India for global investors.

V. Balasubramaniam, MD and CEO of NSE IX, highlighted that the collaboration originated from the CETA, as both nations seek to open new avenues in capital markets connectivity and financial services integration. He said, 'We see this as a timely opportunity to deepen connectivity between the financial markets of the two countries.' Dame Julia Hoggett, CEO of LSEG and Head of Digital & Securities Markets, echoed this sentiment, stating that the MoU marks the next step to connect two of the world's great capital markets and create tangible benefits for investors and companies.

NSE shares listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 1.5% to an intraday high of ₹1,780 on Wednesday, compared to ₹1,752 at the previous close. TradingView data indicated a 2.2% increase over the last five days, and the company’s shares were listed on the stock exchange last month in September 2026. As of the trading close on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, NSE’s market capitalisation stood at ₹4.36 lakh crore. The shares are part of the broader NSE group, which has a market cap of ₹4.36 lakh crore, reflecting robust investor interest in the exchange’s international platform.
