BCCL Shares Rally 8% After Board Approves Coking Coal Price Hikes

Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) saw its shares surge by as much as 7.6% to an intraday high of ₹33.48 on the National Stock Exchange on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, up from Tuesday’s closing price of ₹31.11. The rally followed the board’s approval of a rationalisation of basic prices for certain grades of raw coking coal in the non‑regulated sector. According to a regulatory filing, the company increased basic prices of different grades by approximately 0.1% to 14% over existing levels.

The price revision covers Steel Grades I and II, Direct Feed, PCC Washery Grades W‑II to W‑VI, and HVMC Washery Grades W‑I to W‑VI for the non‑regulated sector, the filing states. The board’s decision aims to correct disproportionate inter‑grade price differentials. These grades represent key inputs for the steel industry and are subject to the company’s basic pricing policy. The revision applies to all units sold to non‑regulated customers, ensuring a uniform pricing structure across the specified categories.

In September 2026, BCCL’s raw coal production rose 20.7% year‑on‑year to 2.57 million tonnes, up from 2.13 MT in September 2025. Coking coal output for the month reached 2.49 MT, a 21.5% YoY increase from 2.05 MT in September 2025. Non‑coking coal production, however, slipped marginally, declining by 0.07 MT compared with the same month last year. These figures reflect the company’s focus on expanding coking coal supply for the steel sector. The monthly production update also highlighted that the increase in raw coal output supports the company’s strategy to meet rising domestic demand for coking coal.

On September 25, BCCL filed a regulatory notice announcing a memorandum of understanding with Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL). The MoU aims to increase domestic coking coal production through joint operation of the Indikatta Ramnagore Coal Block of SAIL and the East of Damagoria (Kalyaneshwari) Coal Block of BCCL in West Bengal. The agreement is described as an important step toward strengthening cooperation between the two CPSEs and developing domestic sources of coking coal.

At 2:19 PM on the day, BCCL shares traded 5.63% higher at ₹32.86 per equity share. The stock has reached a 52‑week high of ₹45.09 on January 19, 2026, and a year’s low of ₹29.74 on March 30, 2026. BCCL was listed on the NSE and BSE on January 19, 2026, at ₹45 per share, a premium of 95.65% over its IPO issue price of ₹23. The company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹15,307.56 crore as of October 14, 2026.
