Ashoka Buildcon Secures ₹290.23-Crore Order from North Eastern Railway, Shares Drop 39% YTD
On Friday, October 9, Ashoka Buildcon announced receipt of a Letter of Acceptance from North Eastern Railway for a new project aimed at upgrading electric traction power supply installations. The project will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis and involves the design, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of traction substations and associated switching posts for the 2x25 kV autotransformer (AT) traction feeding system in the Gorakhpur Cantt–Chhapra Gramin section of the Northeastern Railway’s Varanasi Division. The contract value is ₹290.23 crore and is expected to be completed within 24 months from the date of commencement.
The contract includes a performance bank guarantee of 5% of the contract price and a defect liability period of two years. Ashoka Buildcon will deliver the project on an EPC basis, ensuring end‑to‑end responsibility for engineering, procurement and construction. The EPC contract, valued at ₹290.23 crore, spans 24 months and covers all phases from design to commissioning. The order is a significant addition to the company’s portfolio and will enhance its presence in the railway infrastructure sector.
In the first quarter of FY27, Ashoka Buildcon’s consolidated net profit fell 41% to ₹128 crore from ₹217 crore in the same period of FY26. Revenue from operations declined 21% YoY to ₹1,500 crore from ₹1,887 crore. Operating profit (EBITDA) dropped 57% to ₹258 crore from ₹598 crore, with the EBITDA margin contracting to 17.18% from 31.69% year‑ago. Consolidated debt stood at ₹2,773 crore and the total order book was ₹15,251 crore by June 30, 2026. This reflects a challenging operating environment.
On Friday, Ashoka Buildcon shares closed at ₹102.02, up 0.61% on the National Stock Exchange. From the beginning of the year, the stock has declined 39%, falling 10% over the past month and 16% over the past six months. The shares hit a 52‑week high of ₹214.50 on November 4, 2025, and a 52‑week low of ₹100.31 on October 9, 2026. The market capitalisation as of October 9, 2026 stands at ₹2,863.94 crore.
The recent order from North Eastern Railway adds a substantial contract to Ashoka Buildcon’s pipeline, but the stock has continued to underperform year‑to‑date, reflecting broader market sentiment and the company’s recent earnings decline. The 24‑month project, valued at ₹290.23 crore, will enhance the firm’s railway infrastructure capabilities and may improve future order flow. Investors will monitor the company’s ability to execute the EPC contract within the stipulated defect liability period and performance guarantee.
