Vedanta Group Shares Focused on Q2 FY27 Updates, Hindustan Zinc Leads with Production Growth

Hindustan Zinc Ltd, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, reported a 5% year‑on‑year increase in mined metal production for Q2 FY27, reaching 271 kilotonnes (KT) compared with 258 KT in the same period last year. The rise was attributed to higher ore production. Refined metal output surged 7% YoY to 264 KT, up from 246 KT in Q2 FY26, driven by capacity unlocked through debottlenecking projects at Chanderiya and Dariba and a 160 ktpa roaster at Debari, aligning with plant availability. Saleable silver production stood at 173 metric tonnes, marking a 20% YoY rise in line with the production plan. Wind power generation increased 17% YoY to 155 million units (MU) from 132 MU, reflecting favourable wind velocity and weather patterns.

Vedanta Power Ltd announced a 26% year‑on‑year rise in power sales to 5,593 MU in Q2 FY27, up from 4,433 MU in the previous fiscal’s second quarter. The company recorded 10,817 MU of power sales in the first half of the current fiscal, registering a 32% YoY growth, attributed to stronger plant performance and improved availability across its portfolio. Growth was driven by a sharp increase in generation at Meenakshi Energy and a turnaround at Jharsuguda Thermal Plant. At Meenakshi Energy, power sales increased 111% YoY to 1,470 MU in Q2, taking overall first‑half sales to 2,820 MU, up 160% YoY.

Vedanta Iron and Steel reported a 13% year‑on‑year decline in saleable ore production to 5.2 million dry metric tonnes (Mn DMT) in Q2 FY27, compared with 1.75 Mn DMT in the same period last year. However, steel saleable production and hot metal production increased by 4% YoY and 3% YoY respectively. Production at Goa mines jumped 22% YoY due to ramp‑up of mining operations and enhanced processing capacity. Production at Karnataka mines declined 49% YoY, aligning with the company’s revised estimates and updated mine plan, while Odisha mines saw consistent 34% YoY growth in saleable ore production, supported by higher operational efficiency.

Vedanta Aluminium Metal achieved its highest-ever quarterly and half‑yearly aluminium production, recording 649 KT and 1,281 KT respectively. The increase was supported by new smelter volume and efficiency of existing lines. Alumina production jumped 37% YoY to 895 KTT during Q2 FY27, up from 653 KT in Q2 FY26, reflecting the ramp‑up and stabilization of the expansion circuit. The company’s performance highlights the effectiveness of its expansion strategy and operational efficiencies across the aluminium production chain.

Vedanta Oil and Gas posted a 19% year‑on‑year drop in its average daily gross operated production to 72.2 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd) in the September quarter of FY27, down from 89.1 kboepd in the year‑ago period. Additionally, its average daily working interest production declined 18% YoY to 47.8 kboepd for the reporting quarter, indicating a contraction in upstream output during the period.
