Hyundai Motor India Posts Record September Sales, Shares Rise 0.2%
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) reported that its overall sales for Q1FY27 fell 1.3% year‑on‑year to 178,202 units, a decline attributed to the West Asia crisis impacting the export sales segment. Despite the quarterly dip, the company announced that September monthly sales reached 77,916 units, a 10.8% increase from the same month last year. This figure represents the highest monthly sales ever achieved by the company, surpassing the previous record set in July 2026.
The robust September performance was driven by a 10.9% rise in domestic sales, which totaled 57,166 units, and a 20,750‑unit contribution from exports. Mr. Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of HMIL, expressed delight at closing September 2026 with the highest‑ever total monthly sales, noting that the growth reflects the strong appeal of the company’s product portfolio and its commitment to world‑class mobility solutions in India and global markets.
Following the announcement, HMIL’s share price rebounded from intraday lows, trading 0.2% higher at ₹2,042 on the NSE after touching ₹2,002 earlier that day. Year‑to‑date, the shares have delivered an 11% return for the year. Investor confidence was further buoyed by the company’s outlook that customer enthusiasm will continue into the upcoming festive season, supported by new bookings.
During the Q1FY27 earnings call, management projected an 8‑10% growth for FY27, citing domestic and international market support from demand normalisation and new launches. The company anticipates slower industry growth in H2, with lower single‑digit expansion, and an overall 6‑9% growth for the year. Nevertheless, HMIL expects to improve its market share, holding approximately 12‑13% in FY26 and targeting gains in FY27.
The company’s export sales in Q1FY27 amounted to 38,708 units, down from 48,140 units in the same period last year, reflecting the impact of the West Asia crisis. Despite this, the company remains optimistic about its performance, citing strong domestic sales growth and a resilient export contribution as key drivers of its record September sales achievement.
